Princess Genevieve Knits

This is the photo I couldn't get to post yesterday. They're socks for Kobey's fourth birthday, and I finished just in time, seeing as how the party is on Saturday. The invitation suggested bringing your bathing suit for swimming in the kiddie pool, but I think I'll pass on that! Anyway, I used the Knit Picks sock yarn sent to me by Katie, size 2US/2.75 mm Brittany needles, and the pattern is one from someone's blog, but I apparently didn't save the link and I can't remember it. I'll post it later once I look at my printout at home.

Now, in person, these socks look a little long for a four year old. They are only like an inch shorter than socks I would make for myself. However, according to the child's mother, this is the correct size. So, I hope they fit!

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on what to do with the little balls of sock yarn that are always left over? This time it's possibly not enough for baby socks, but it still seems a waste to just toss it out.

The socks are great! How thoughtful to send school colors :D

I have never heard of arm warmers before, which is surprising considering where i'm from. They look awesome.

Thanks, Amie! Also, I wonder if arm warmers are a knitting thing? They are much easier to make than gloves, because of the lack of fingers, but it's not exactly something you see frequently in stores. I like them, though.

Yay for more socks! As for little bits--I suppose you can save them up until you have enough to make a multi-colored project. I had all sorts of bits of yarn around when Kim asked for extra bits for her stash-ghan, so I just sent all of mine to her. But her project is done now.

I seem to recall somewhere in the recent blogosphere, spotting a woman who was using all her leftover bits of sock yarn to slowly knit one of those blankets made from mitred squares.
The socks look great!

The socks turned out really cute! Any word yet on how he liked them?

I would definately use the yarnscraps to make very multi-coloured striped socks. Saying that, I can´t help thinking of my leftover sockyarn, hmmm.... Hope you´re well, and I´ll get back to you soon (package time is coming...)! SP

SP, I like that idea too! I had thought of it also, but I wasn't sure the best way to do it - do you think you would make two multicolored socks that were alike (ie, using half of the scrap for one sock, half for another, so that they sort of match) or just go through the sock scraps, making two totally different socks?

Go through the sock-scraps! Call them Pippi Longstockings-socks! Or, I figured out, the yarn´s thickness could be perfect for beaded wristwarmers! SP

What I do with my left overs is toss them all in a bag and then when I've got several, just grab a ball out of the bag, knit with it till it's gone and then take the next one (without peeking of course) and so forth until I've got a pair of socks for me... they'll be all funky non matching socks :)
Cheers Eva - working her way through all the blogs of the sockret pals :)
