Amy and I have teamed up to create a new secret pal exchange. Have you been jealous of all the cool stuff I get in the mail, but you don't knit? Or maybe you do knit, and you'd like to try out a not-knit specific swap? Check this one out. It's a secret pal exchange, and hopefully, it will be fun. Soaring Eagles Hats
I made two hats over the weekend for the
Soaring Eagles Project.
I used the MarLen yarn I bought in Prague for both hats. The yarn is 100% bavlna which I'm pretty sure is cotton. This one is a basic cable pattern. It came out a little smaller than I was anticipating, but it's for a kid, so I think it will be OK. It should fit a kindergartener or someone small.
And this is a basic hat, size child. I really like the way this one came out. The yarn is super soft, especially for cotton, and I got both hats out of one skein with a bit left over.
I started a third hat out of a different (also MarLen) yarn, too. Hopefully I will finish that up this weekend and get them mailed off.
I Sewed Something
This is what I did last night. I turned my old pyjama pants into a skirt. My stitches aren't straight and it's a little wonky from where I had to adjust the fabric to cover up a hole, but still. I'd wear it out of the house. Not to work, mind you, but like, to the park or something. Since this is only like the second thing ever I've done on the sewing machine, I'm OK with how it came out!

Look what I got! My awesome Secret Pal 9 sent me another package! Let's see, we have the Yarn Harlot's new book, a cute Feng Shaun book, buttons shaped like mittens, beads, a picture frame, and of course, yarn! Plus a very cute notecard with a photo of her son on the front.

Irish Walking Hat
This is an
Irish walking hat that I finished over the weekend. I can't remember what the yarn is, some sort of 100% wool that my friend Elizabeth bought. I made the hat, and Elizabeth is making the Irish hiking scarf to match. They are then going to the
Junior League silent auction, which will raise money for the League.
I hope it sells - some of the other items on the list are very fancy! Lunch with Tucker Carlson at the Palm, a Cartier gift certificate, and a flight simulation event from Lockheed Martin, for example.
Maybe we'll get the people who don't have the money to bid on the Mercedes child's pedal car to bid on ours.
Magic Ball
Look what my Secret Pal sent me! A Magic Ball.
It was very heavy when I took it out of the box. I've never gotten one of these before, and I wasn't sure if you were supposed to just knit with it and see what would come up, or unwind and see what you get. Unwinding seemed the better plan to me - knitting with plastic objects in the yarn seemed like it could be tricky, and also? I am impatient!
Here's the goods. She used two kinds of yarn - a pink, which feels like cotton, and a multicolored thing, which feels like wool. But SP9, correct me if I am wrong! There were candle holders, stitch markers, little buttons, a tapestry needle, pens, stickers, hand lotion, candy, a notebook, a keychain, and a row counter. Row counters, to me, are like scissors and tape measures. Can never have too many!
